Brief of Artist Alpa Palkhiwala

(b.1975) Originally from Cambay, I’ve been living in Ahmedabad,
completed (B.F.A.) in C.N.College of Fine Arts, Ahmedabad in 1996
Bachelor of Arts with History in Gujarat University in 1998

Statement : blend the forms of ancient Indian art and individualize my innovative style - a new semi
realistic technique of texturing with the realistic play of earthy colour. The Padmasana series appears
like the Indian heritage, its culture and yoga forms.

As a Contemporary Artist, my work is deeply inspired by spiritual art, with a focus on the Padmasana form, which I blend with themes of yoga and meditation. By harmonizing the mind, body, and breath, my aim is to evoke a sense of energy and peace that nourishes the soul. Through layers of earthy colors and my unique
style, I illuminate this energy in my artwork. My Transcendental Universe series exemplifies this approach to Contemporary Art—handmade in dark hues of black and grey on raw canvas, using acrylics, ink, and charcoal to achieve
a finish akin to an etching print. I used jute fabric to make his frame look authentic. Each piece
captures the meditative calm and innate cosmic energy that can be experienced through dedicated
practice.

Creation by me is not limited to the basic Padmasana Yoga Mudra of the same name that enables the
practice of Yoga as a powerful physiological, psychological and meditation technique. This mudra
has been effectively used by me as a means to visualize and blend Hinduism, its rich manuscripts
and the practice of meditation for paying a tribute to the powers and energies of the universe both in
metaphysical form or in those who descended in earthly forms. all this experience of self-realisation of
the vast and mind-boggling cosmos around us through art on the canvas.
